congratulations on your retirement!!!
Beckah Reed, Professor and Artistic Director of Dance, has been teaching at Webster since 1986 and served as the Program Head and Department Chair from 2006–2013. Her focus has been modern technique, composition, dance history, improvisation, pedagogy, and somatics.
As co-artistic director of GASH/VOIGT Dance Theatre (GVDT), an all-women's contemporary dance theatre ensemble based in St. Louis, Beckah (Voigt) created full evening length works collaborating with Susan Gash and a variety of nationally and internationally renowned composers, visual artists, writers, and videographers. GVDT spent fifteen years self-producing their work, conducting educational residencies and international cultural exchanges.
Beckah later founded ANNONYArts, a St. Louis-based performing arts company dedicated to supporting a consortium of independent movement and performing artists, and served as Artistic Director from 2003-2013. She has served on various boards of arts organizations and on panels for arts funding agencies such as the Missouri Arts Council and the Regional Arts Commission.
As head of the dance program at Webster, Beckah oversaw the creation of the Department of Dance as the jointly run Theatre and Dance Department split, and in the Fall of 2011, she was pivotal in establishing a new curriculum for the BFA and BA degrees in Dance.
Beckah’s passionate dedication to this program and its students is commendable. As the constant through so much change in the program, it is through her vision and leadership that we have the incredible program that we do.
